Cyanoacrylate is
the generic head name
for substances such like
methyl-2-cyanoacrylate,
which is typically sold
under name brands like
Superglue and
Krazy Glue, and
2-octyl cyanoacrylate,
which is used in medical
adhesives such as
Dermabond and or
Traumaseal.
Cyanoacrylate adhesives
are sometimes known as
"instant adhesives or
instant glues".
Cyanoacrylate
was
discovered
during
the
first
Word War
when
they
were
searching
for a
way to
produce
synthetic
gun-sights.
This
didn't
work out
as it
adhere
all the
parts
and
devices
used to
handle
it. In
1959,
Kodak
developed
the
product
into a
more
useful
product.
Cyanoacrylate
is a
term
used to
describe
a board
spectrum
of
adhesives
based on
similar
chemical
make up.
Cyanoacrylate is a stronng adhesive and will bond upon contact in many cases, particularly when used to adhere non porous substrates. It will bond skin and it is being tested for use in the medical industry for surgeries. Cyanoacrylates are also used to manufacture a variety of electronics.
